Malahide Sea Scouts in the AIB ‘Better Ireland Competition’.

Our group has taken part in AIB Better Ireland competition (like many others) and we have been successfully shortlisted from 1300 childern projects and are in the final three groups for AIB Swords–(the other two groups are School Completion Programme & St Cronan’s JNS). As you are all well aware it is getting impossible to get funding and have to come up with ingenious ways of getting money.

Our group to date has 510 members (which recently celebrated 90yrs serving our community) and our aim is to continue in giving our youth members a fun and varied programme in a safe environment.

The prizes are €5K, €3K and €2. Winners are determined by a voting system which takes place between 15 Feb and 15 March 2010.

Malahide Sea Scouts – Parent’s & Friend’s AGM – Thursday 26th Nov ‘ 09

Group Leader Lo Kinkenbergh opened this years AGM by welcoming and thanking the large gathering of parent’s , friend’s and leaders of Malahide Sea Scout Group for their support during the year .The Group had never been so active in the recent pass with every section having action packed programme from January 1st 2009.

During the summer months the den was a hive of activity with meetings , canoeing ,canoe polo,sailing,rowing, power boating,sleep overs, beach walks, safety cycling, camps, barbeques,coastal walks, exploring etc. The credit goes to the large amount of volunteer leaders within the group who I thank whole heartily for their support. To the parents who give lifts , cook burgers , fund raise and been there when needed. As we come to the close of 2009 it will be remembered for the simple but very effective programme celebrating our 90th. The Founder’s Day Hike , Quiz Night ,The 90th Group Scarf, The Big Photo Shoot in Malahide Castle , Laura Brennan’s Fun Day , The Display at the Heritage Museum, Remembering the Hon. Rose Talbot , Trip to St.Andrew’s, Sailing Regatta , Triathlon, Annual Camps and Expeditions

Intermediate Oars Charge Cert.

An Intermediate Charge Cert.Oars Course is planned to start on Sunday Evenings from 19.30hrs to 20.00hrs in the Ward Room of the den.

The start date is Sunday November 15th 2009. The Theory part of the course will run till the end of January 2010 . The practical will be covered on the launching of the rowing boats in March/April 2010?

On completing both theory and practical a cert and badge will be presented The minimum age to be awarded is 15 years.

The cost is €15 per scout and registation can be made directly to the course leader Kevin Rowan (M : 087 255 95 16) or via your Skippers.

Recently 9 leaders across all sections attended a Welcome to Scouting training evening in the Ward Room of the Den. The course is an introduction to Sea Scouting in Malahide. The evening explains The Scout Method , Aims and Objectives of Scouting ,Commitment of Leadership, Leaders Role in Scouting , Introduction Code of Good Practice , History of Malahide Sea Scouts etc.

The course trainers were Stephanie McCann and Kevin Rowan

Canoe Polo has come to Malahide

The Malahide Sea Scout group has recently purchased a fleet of 10 new polo boats and the scouts and leaders alike are looking forward to a spot of canoe polo over the winter months.

Survival Competition 2009

The Wednesday troops annual hiking competition was held last Sunday 18th October in the Wicklow mountains. 41 scouts and 8 leaders attended.
