Neckerchief
The neckerchief is a crucial part of the Sea Scout uniform. For example, when on activities or on camps even if the jumper part of the uniform is not required, the neckerchief is sure to be. The name is also often shortened to just ‘necker’ by many members of scouts.
The Malahide Sea Scout neckerchief is very unique as on the back we have the crest of Talbot which we were given permission to use by the Talbot family. In 2009, the Malahide Sea Scouts group celebrated it’s 90 year birthday and to celebrate special black neckerchiefs with a gold strip along the sides were given to all members of the group in the place of the usual red neckerchief which was used all through until the end of 2009.
How To Roll a Neckerchief
When neckerchiefs are worn, they are rolled and a woggle is put on them to keep the two ends together. Many people have problems rolling neckerchiefs, so this might help!!
Step One
Okay, you will need two people, but after you get the hang of it, you should be able to do it on your own.
Both of you take one end each. Hold the end REALLY tight, but make sure not to let go of it!
Step Two!
Now, one of you take the bottom and bring it up and around the top, but make sure it is the opposite way to the way the badge is facing!!
Step Three!
Now, do the same thing over and over until the badge is almost at the top. It may be easier if the person helping you takes bringing the bottom around after you do. CAREFUL! At this point, the neckerchief will try to unravel, so make sure to hold it in place!
Step Four!
Grab the middle of the neckerchief and let the two ends go. If you did it neat enough, it should look really good!
