Congratulations was expressed widely today on the appointment of Skipper Stephanie McCann as an Honorary Member of Malahide Sea Scout Group. Stephanie who retired recently had been Scouting in the former Fingall Scouting District and joined Malahide as a Scouter and Skipper of Tuesday night troop back in 2000. Building on the success of the scout troop a name change was agreed by its members and became known as the Neala Troop.’ Neala’ means achiever , accreditation that every scout received who came under her care.
The presentation of Honorary Membership by the group dates back to 1975. In those 46 years Stephanie became today the groups 19th person to be awarded the Honor. Group Leader John Butterly in the presence of Skipper Simone Corvin, fellow Scouters, friends, and the ‘Lir’ troop presented firstly, the 4o year service award .Following a citation read by Deputy Group Leader Kevin Rowan , the G.L. presented the Honorary neckerchief along with a boutique of flowers from the troop. The beautiful day and the very important occasion gave great opportunity for many farewell photographs .
