Once a year we get an opportunity to recognise their contribution with;
Meritorious awards – for outstanding commitment to Scouting.
Service Awards – for years of service to Scouting.
Malahide Sea Scouts is lucky to have soo many passionate and talented volunteers with decades of scouting experience to best serve the programme and safe activities in the outdoors.
Last week, the Group Leader was delighted to present some notable service awards to some exceptional Malahide Sea Scout stalwarts.
25 years of service – Alan Johns & Ivan Barrett.
40 years of service – Stephen Taylor.
50 years of service – Kevin Rowan.
The Group Leader also took the opportunity to present the ‘Bosuns Whistle’ to some of the new Section Leaders.
A nautical symbolism as they prepare to ‘pass commands to the crew’ and deliver an exciting Sea Scouting – Ireland youth development programme.
Thank you to all our volunteers and wishing you all a peaceful and happy Christmas.

Strong conditions but the inner estuary played to its strength keeping the race area sheltered.
Gusty westerly winds made for some spicy sailing with plenty of wet and dry capsizing!
Good recoveries and some really close racing!
Bravo to all sailors who braved the conditions and did a great job representing their Scout Group ⛵

]]> That’s a wrap on Annual Camp 2023 for Neala Troop!

This year 18 Scouts and Ventures headed north to Crawfordsburn Scout Centre to spend 5 nights under canvas.
We had a jampacked few days including ziplining and tobogganing in Colin Glen Adventure Park, climbing, caving and abseiling on-site and the highlight of the trip, SUP boarding with Ultimate Sup NI.
Our Scouts now hold the record for the highest SUP board Jenga tower!
The next adventure for the troop is in a couple of weeks, when some of our Ventures and leader Aisling head off to South Korea to take part in the World Scout Jamboree.

]]> Well done to the East Coast Cubs from Howth Scout Group, Malahide Sea Scouts, 1st Port of Dublin Sea Scouts – Ringsend, 63rd Donabate Sea Scouts, Skerries Sea Scouts 2nd Dublin 16th Port who competed in the inaugural Gerry Hickey Seamanship Cup yesterday!
A fantastic day of nautical knowledge with the Cubs showing off their skills in ropework, chartwork, water safety and marine science.
We were very very impressed!
Gerry would have been very pleased to see the collaboration and friendships between all the Cubs
It was a great honour to name the new Cub Seamanship Competition after our friend, the late Gerry Hickey.
Thanks to everyone involved and BZ to our CúChulainn Cub Pack who took home the Gerry Hickey Cup for the first time, presented by Anna Hickey.
Big thanks also to Clean Coasts who facilitated an excellent marine science base for the Cubs looking at flood defences and responsible disposable of waste!

]]> Last weekend we celebrated our 104th Launch Day!

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ventures, Scouters, Parents & Friends all gathered at the Den to launch the 2023 Boating Season!
It was a beautiful day with ideal winds and plenty of sunshine.
A tradition for some of our youngest Beavers to ring the Albatross Bell in front of the gathered crowd to formally open the season followed by the blessing of the boats wishing well and safe passage to all afloat.
This then gave the signal to launch the fleet where over 150 young people got out for a taster of sailing, rowing, powerboating and paddling.

On the shore, our Cubs hosted a BBQ and bake sale with all donations towards our friends at the RNLI – nearly €900 raised!

Fair winds and following seas to everyone this year.

An incredible weekend experience for the 22 competitors from across the Country competing in the annual Master Mariner Competition proudly sponsored by the Irish Institute of Master Mariners.

A quick roundup of the competitors experience day ahead of the real annual Master Mariner Competition!A fascinating tour of Irelands only maritime training college with college lecturer Capt.Bill Kavanagh, former lecturer to one of the competition trophy name-sakes, Sea Scouter Capt.Cian Timmons.

Very impressive resources and simulators.
The competitors were also treated to sit-in on part of a sea survival class happening in the environmental pool.
A whistle-stop tour of Irish Naval HQ on Haulbowline Island with Lieut.Eoghan O’Hara.
The Scouts and Ventures were given access to the decks, bridge and engine room of the LE Roisin and LE George Bernard Shaw.
Formidable to see so many of the Irish Naval fleet in one place at one time!
Finally a stop off at RNLI Crosshaven Lifeboat Station with Capt. Hugh Tully and his team for a great inspection of the station, equipment and volunteer crew life.
The RNLI celebrate their 199th birthday this weekend!

The Ventures and Rovers were welcomed aboard by the Chief Mate before getting a fascinating and VIP tour with Captain Dermot Grey and 2nd Officer Brian Sinnott.
A bilge-to-bridge inspection of the impressive vessel alongside a demo of ROV operations and a presentation of all the activities the ship and crew get up to!
