MSS Nautical Award

Colum, our Boatmaster and Jordan  along with support from a number of MSS leaders run the MSS Nautical award scheme over the winter.  The award aims to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to lead a boating session on the water (rowing and/or sailing).  It is usually run over 6 Sunday night sessions followed by two weekends of practical training and assessments on the water in spring time.  From your perspective, this is a great way to develop your on the water leadership and for the Group it is the primary means through which we develop and maintain a core of qualified instructors and ventures/adult leaders that can provide support.

Anyone who wants to lead a group of Cubs, Beavers or Scouts out rowing and/or sailing must have this qualification (or be a qualified ISA sailing instructor).

The MSS Nautical award covers many topics including:

  1. engines and drives
  2. anchors
