From Dunlaoghaire to the Half Moon,Poolbeg to Dodder. This is the Sea Scout Long Distance Skiff Race-2012
The starter gun goes and the race begins. The crews pull hard out of Dunlaoghaire harbour to begin the 7 Kilometer race over open sea, across Dublin Bay,against the flow of the River Liffey and a hard push up into the Dodder river too reach the finish line. This is the Sea Scout Dublin Bay skiff race. 3 crews of 5 including the coxswain make the relay race. The under 17′s race from Dunlaogaire Harbour and turn at the South Wall to the Half Moon and there the first crew change takes place. Here the under 15′s take charge and make headway to the next change over at Poolbeg. The youngest crew is now pacing the pontoons waiting for their chance to take over and race to the finish line at Dodder Sea scouts den.
The weather this year was quite favourable to all teams , but the Malahide team held the lead from the very beginning. Crew changes at the Half Moon and Poolbeg were smooth and the last leg brought our team first over the finish line. Well done to Malahide(Wednesday Troop) and 5th Port Dollymount (Valkyries) who took 2nd place
.
