Recent visit to Leinster House by members of Malahide Sea Scout Group

Welcome to the Houses of the Oireachtas was extended recently to leaders of the Malahide Sea Scout Group. Ten members from the group were joined by Ruth Hughes of Scouting Ireland to a full visit of both houses.

Leinster House as we know, is home to our elected representatives but on entering through the doors you step back into Ireland’s  history .Several large portraits greet you in the entrance hall. Eamon De Valera, Cathal Brugha,Michael Collins,W.T.Cosgrave and Arthur Griffith. The further into the house you go the more of its history unfolds with galleries of former  Taoisigh, to hallways  with portraits of heads of the upper and lower houses.

What brought the leadership of Malahide Sea Scouts to Parliament? Was it to bend the Minister of Finance Mr.Noonan’s ear before budget day to increase spending on Scouting. No such luck !  However it was a great opportunity to see inside the corridors of power. Thanks to group leader Robert McKernan who arranged the visit.
