Woodbeads from Dowdstown House,Co.Meath
Congratulations was extended recently from our Group Leader Robert McKernan to Edward O’Donnell of the Wednesday Night Cubs. Edward was presented his Woodbeads at Dowdstown House,Co.Meath. The Woodbadge as it is known goes back to the first adult training course which was held in 1918 in Gilwell Park,North London.
When Baden-Powell returned from the 2nd Boer War of 1899 he had been gifted a necklace of wooden beads from Dinizulu as a sign of friendship. BP used them to present to adult volunteer leaders who took on training.
The present Woodbadge is gained by taking part in a six step training course over a period of 18 to 24 months. The course covers scouting skills through to personal development and finally leadership and managment skills. Congratulations
