You only have to do it the once in a hundred years to win the centenary race of the Wood – Latimer trophy and that is what the Malahide crew of the under 17’s did today on the 100th anniversary of the oldest Sea Scout race in the world. The Malahide crew of , Robin Caird, Dylan O’Halloran,Lachlan Ellingboe and Jordan Killen cruised away very swiftly with the T.J. Wood – Latimer trophy in Dunlaoghaire harbour. Coxswain Conor Ryan worked the crew with style, and after rounding the 3rd marker buoy made the passage to the final line with a great lead.
The Wood – Latimer cup has been competed for every year since 1914, except for 5 years in 1922, 1923, 1946, 1948, and 1952. Presented by Mr.T.J.Woodlatimer chairperson of the newly formed Dublin County Sea Scout Sub-Committee the first team to lift the cup was 2nd Port of Dublin Sea Scouts of Clontarf under skipper Mr. William J. Perrin.
