23rd World Scout Jamboree –Kirarahama , Japan 2015
Malahide Sea Scouts have had members attending the World Scout Jamborees since 1929. Our group leader of later years Mr. Jack Webb who attended 3rd World Scout Jamboree held in Arrow Park , Birkenhead in Great Britain in 1929 had an overall attendance of 50,000 from 40 different countries .The theme for the camp was “Coming of Age”
During the 50th anniversary of Scouting Jubilee celebrations in 1957 ,18 scouts and leaders from Malahide attended the 9th World Scout Jamboree in Sutton Park ,Sutton Coldfield in Warwickshire. A large number by any standards for any one group to send .Mr . Jack Webb as group leader led the Malahide contingent.
Over the weekend and today, 27 leaders and scouts from the Malahide Sea Scout group set off to represent both Malahide and Scouting Ireland. Making up 9% of the total Irish contingent ,Malahide continues with a tradition of been represented at World Scout Jamboree’s since 1929.
There was an exception when one World Scout Jamboree was cancelled in 1979 due to the overthrow of the then Shah of Iran. A scout leader from Malahide Ciaran Mahon had intended to travel but was forced to cancel due to the political upheaval at the time.
