Nan Lindsay’s passing
Nan Lindsay, a long-time member of Malahide Sea Scout Group since 1949 passed away recently. Her first appointment in 15thDublin was assistant cub leader in the newly reformed group. After an absence of scouting in the parish for some years the new Rector Canon Gough Cooper of St. Andrew‘s church set up scouts in the school hall on Church Road. Nan along with Brian O’Callaghan took in 20 boys. For the next 24 years she acted as ACSL and CSL and worked both in the District and at National level. Her hand written and typed records over the years will be an invaluable record of that period she spent in Malahide Scouting. Many well-known person attended her pack and here both Adam Clayton and Dave Evans of U2 started their Scouting with Nan.
Her strong scouting training stood her well over the years and up to her 85th Birthday she would swim most days at Low Rock, Robswall, Malahide. On one occasion her swimming friends celebrated her 80th with a party and cake at the sea wall .Nan was made a Life Honorary member of the group and would wear the group scarf with pride. She passed away recently just before her 90th Birthday.
