New sign 2014

Always a time for change but the symbol holds the same meaning, here there is Sea Scouting. The original sign was painted and erected in 1987. Before , several more murals were painted in and around the inside and outside of the  den by the same artist.

Original sign hand painted by Kevin Rowen  in 1987

The sign diameter of eight foot ,was two 8’ x 4’ sheets of marine plywood pinned together and then the two rectangular boards were shaped into a circular as we see it today by Mr. Tommy Taylor.

The sign took several undercoats of battleship grey before the sign maker commenced the art work of the National Sea Scout logo of the then ,Scout Association of Ireland.  Preparing for the hand drawn symbol was done first on a piece of grid paper which the shape was drawn onto, and carefully copied onto the large sign. It took approx. three weeks to complete and all done by hand before it and was erected by nailing chocks onto the outside wall and pulled up by pulleys due to the weight of the sign.  So after 27 years a new generation takes up the baton and congratulations to all involved.
