GL Robert McKernan presents Peace Light
Arrival of Peace Light

Peace Light arrives at Den The origins of the Peace Light of Bethlehem go back as far as 1986 when the Austrian Radio and Television network came up with the idea. Nowadays scouts from Palestine, Israel and Austria take light from the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and travel with the light to over 20 countries including Ireland. Sea Scouts in Poland take it by sea from Kolobrzeg, Poland to Ronne, Denmark on board the Sea Scout Ship Zawisza Czarny.Peace Light Dec.2013 IMG_2828 (13)

The light arrived in Ireland early this month in Fairview Dublin after travelling overland from Vienna, Austria and finally reaching our shores by ferry via Holyhead in North Wales. The light arrived in Malahide on Christmas Eve. Here over 200 members and friends of the group welcomed the light by celebrating with a carol service in our den on James Terrace. The Enchrides Youth Choir performed to a captive audience who sang along to the magnificent classical performance given for over an hour by the choir. Families and friends took the opportunity to take light from the flame that had made the 4000mile journey. Our thanks to the Malahide Community and the Enchrides Youth Choir who turned out to welcome and celebrate with us the arrival of the light.
