It is planned to commence the next Oars Charge Cert Course (Theory part) on Sunday January 9th 2011 from 19.30hrs to 21.00hrs. The course will be run over an 8/9 week period to include written test, knots, whippings and splices. First Aid, boat maintenance and swim exercise can be certified by getting your S.L. to sign off. Normal eligible age to attend is 15 years. Good attendance is essential as 10% of overall marks will be added on .The course may not suit scouts in exam year?  The Practical Boating end of the course will be done towards the end of April 2011(subject boats been in the water).

In addition to this years course an Advance Oars Level will run in conjunction with the Intermediate Oars course and may extend to more than 8/9 weeks? To be able to do the Advance you must have attained your Intermediate oars and be over 17 years of age on date of written test, have an in date Occupational First Aid certificate (FETAC Level 5) or Life support level 3 of RLSS and be able to demonstrate minor boat/oar repairs. As part of the course, assistance in instruction is expected on certain nights and days to the Intermediate participants. The Practical Boating end of the course will be done towards the end of April 2011(subject boats been in the water).

The venue will be at Malahide Scout Den , St.James Terrace, Malahide .The cost for the whole course including practical boating is €18 for Intermediate and €22 for Advance. This fee includes all notes , photocopying , certificate and badge to successful candidates.
