Oars Course at the Den
Instruction on Boat Maintenance.
This year’s Intermediate Oars Charge Certificate course began on Sunday evening 9th of February with 12 participants. The first evening covered Water Safety, Boating Guidelines and Parts of a Boat. The theory part of the course will run for the next 7 to 8 Sunday evenings for one and half hour duration. Different Guests speakers have being invited over the weeks to delivery modules on International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea, safety and emergency equipment, Boat Maintenance, and Meteorology. A big thank you to Stephen Taylor, Andy O’Connell, Ian Kavanagh and Paul McEvoy who give their time very generously over the years.
The course introduces young watch leaders and adult leaders to taking a boats crew afloat and learn about responsibilities of looking after a boats crew. Disciplines taught include ,take responsibility for an emergency while afloat , man over board drill , loss of rudder or broken oar.
The course will conclude when boats are launched in late April and the participants complete the practical boating over a weekend.
